The previous restoration of the urban villa listed under heritage preservation ordinances also entailed the rebuilding of the cellar to convert it into a basement living area. This resulted in a new height situation of the terrain in front of the windows, which were placed lower. Likewise, the steel stairway leading from the upper living room terrace to the outdoor area needed to be integrated.
The Martini architectural office in Bonn planned the new carport to the side of the building with a wall cladding made of Cor-Ten steel that extended all the way around. This design is now continued for the garden in the wall cladding of the different levels of the terrain around the lily pond. The modern constructional steel has developed a smooth and elegant patina of rust. Various bronze objects have been set up in new spots along selected viewing axes. Formal groups of trees structure the space and provide the basic structure for the lighting concept.
The garden contains the following design elements:
- Biological water basin with waterfall
- Cor-Ten steel clad walls in the area of the lower-lying terrace
- Shields for privacy accomplished with axes of small evergreens
- Plant concept consisting of topiary groups combined with perennials in a nature-like country style
